Top 4 Tips for Booking an Airbnb

My first Airbnb experience was on a beautiful sunny September in  Madrid, Spain.  I was nervous and I didn’t know what to expect. However I felt assured because the host was very responsive through the agreed medium of communication.

My Madrid host was the most caring and helpful stranger, I had ever met. Even during the though transition moments  I had, she was there like a Mother to help me out. My first Airbnb left me a good impression of the company and I kept using it then.

4 cities and 2 countries later, with phenomenal experiences, I decided to give Airbnb a try in Istanbul, Turkey. This was the worst decision I had made. I ignored a lot of warning signs which led me to nearly pack out of the location.

Check out the videos below to find out what happened:

Based on my horrible Airbnb experience, here are some tips to having a better experience than I did:

  1.  Read all the comments on host’s Airbnb profile.

  2. Access and Evaluate the feedback, frequency and manner in which the host responds.

  3. Know what type of payment policy the host has.

  4. Research the neighborhood/environment you plan on staying.

I hope you will avoid the mistakes I made. No one deserves to be treated badly when booking a stay especially in a foreign country.

Have you had a horrible Airbnb experience? What were yours? What tips would you advice first time users?

I hope you felt inspired!

Thank you for sharing your story, i also experienced something similar on the North of Europe, in the winter when there is almost no daylight there. The guy who managed the place was totally drunk and it was a weird apartment. Anyway, the rest of the trip was amazing. We should all be more careful when choosing places to stay on Airbnb 🙂 Btw, I’m happy you had good experiences with your hosts in Italy and Spain. You should also visit Croatia and Portugal, you would love it 🙂

Good to know. i have not used Air bnb but I always hear such good things about it. Maybe because it was Turkey? I will definitely read all the reviews if I try it. Thanks
