My first Airbnb experience was on a beautiful sunny September in  Madrid, Spain.  I was nervous and I didn’t know what to expect. However, I felt assured because the host was very responsive through the agreed medium of communication.

My Madrid host was the most caring and helpful stranger, I had ever met. Even during the though transition moments  I had, she was there like a Mother to help me out. My first Airbnb left me a good impression of the company and I kept using it then.

4 cities and 2 countries later, with phenomenal experiences, I decided to give Airbnb a try in Istanbul, Turkey. This was the worst decision I had made. I ignored a lot of warning signs which led me to nearly pack out of the location.

Based on my horrible Airbnb experience, here are some tips to having a better experience than I did:

  1.  Read all the comments on the host’s Airbnb profile.

  2. Access and Evaluate the feedback, frequency, and manner in which the host responds.

  3. Know what type of payment policy the host has.

  4. Research the neighborhood/environment you plan on staying in.

I hope you will avoid the mistakes I made. No one deserves to be treated badly when booking a stay, especially in a foreign country.

Would I continue to use Airbnb? Definitely! I love their concept and their customer service has always been helpful for me.

Have you had a horrible Airbnb experience? What were yours? What tips would you advice first-time users?

I hope you felt inspired!
